ADVENT 2015  in the Completely Restored Church Interior

You are invited to SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence for opportunities to celebrate our completion to the restoration project.

November 28-29, 2015 : First Sunday of Advent

During the weekend Masses we re-enter the restored church. A highlight of the weekend will be the new organ. Thanks to a donation from Ron and Joyce Wanek of Arcadia, we have a brand new Rodgers Organ and speaker system. Kraig Windschitl, “The Best Organist in Minnesota,” is a Rodgers representative who will be accompanying our cantors and choir during both weekend Masses. We hope that he will show off what the new instrument can do. Following the Saturday evening, Mass Mr. Windschitl will perform an extended postlude for anyone who wants to stay and enjoy.

December 6, 2015 : Second Sunday of Advent

His Excellency, Most Reverend William P. Callahan, Bishop of the Diocese of La Crosse, at the 10:30 am Mass will re-dedicate the SS Peter and Paul church building to the honor and glory of God. With a simple Rite of Blessing, our bishop will help us grow in faith and strengthen our covenant with God. Visiting priests planning to concelebrate include Msgr. Matthew Malnar, Msgr. David Kunz and Fr. John Schultz. Joining the SS Peter and Paul Choir for the Mass and later offering a brief organ concert, is Sam Backman, a son of the parish and one who we feel is really the “best organist in Minnesota”. After the morning Mass, a Polish Dinner will be served with much celebration to follow. An R.S.V.P. to the parish (715 985-2227) or school (715 985-3719) by Nov. 27 would be appreciated for a meal count and preparation.

December 12-16 : Parish Mission with Fr. Sam Martin

With the theme of “Rediscover Catholicism” and the renewal of the soul, Fr. Sam Martin, pastor of St. John the Baptist Parish, Marshfield and Christ the King Parish, Spencer, as well as professor for our diocesan Lay Formation Institute (LFI), will be here to preach the weekend Masses and offer the Mission Presentations. His talks will be held Sunday through Wednesday evenings from 7 – 8:30 pm. Fr. Martin is well known as a dynamic and engaging presenter. In fact, Fr. Woody is a little nervous that he is coming. Parishioners may begin to drive to Marshfield for better Sunday homilies after the Parish Mission. Yikes! Come to renew your faith and strengthen your relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church.

Tuesday, December 15 : Parish Mission and Confessions

As part of the Parish Mission and the opening of the Jubilee Year of Mercy, several priests of the Arcadia Deanery and local area will join us to offer the Sacrament of Reconciliation. After a briefer reflection, Fr. Martin will invite us to reconcile with God, restoring the inner life He desires for us in His mercy and love. After renewing the interior of our church, it is most fitting that we would renew the interior of our souls with the grace of God’s forgiveness, compassion and abundant love. The evening’s activities begin at 7pm.
